Michelle Shrewbury began her piano studies in 1978, she added trumpet in 1979 and flute in 1980. Michelle played trumpet and piano for four years in marching band and percussion for five years in jazz ensemble. She also played oboe in symphonic band for three years. She spent seven years teaching high school marching bands and middle school winter guard.
During this time, Michelle also appeared in numerous plays and musicals in high school and community theater. Additional musical studies include performing with the Rovasi Chorale Show Choir, four years as a member of the Chamber Orchestra and Madrigal Singers of East Quadrangle at the University of Michigan (first soprano oboe and harpsichord). Also, three years on the soprano and mellophone lines and a year with the winter guard as a mmebr of the Royal Lancers Senior Drum and Bugle Corps.
She began harp lessons with Ruth Myers-Brown of Dearborn in 1995, as well as studied guitar with Dr. C. Nelson Amos at Easter Michigan University in 1997 while completing a year of post-graduate studies that included performing with the Collegium as a second soprano. From 2002 to 2017, Michelle taught at Evola Music in Canton, offering Kidermusik classes, private lessons, group piano classes and pioneering the group guitar program there. In 2013, she joined the staff of Spotlight on Youth as Music Director leaving in 2016 after moving to Manchester, where she is currently the music director at Manchester High School.
She frequently works as a piano and harp soloist substituting for vacationing church musicians and leading church choirs, as well as playing in pit orchestras and teaching music at local schools .She currently teaches private piano, guitar and voice lessons from her studio at home and is excited to start her new journey at The Art Of Musique this year!
